I am FREAKING OUT. FREAKING OUT!!!! More so than usual! Oh how I loved this book. Growing up in Hawaii with a ballet loving loving mother, this whole NYC ballet world seemed soooooo amazing. When I was 10 my parents took me to New York to see the New York City Ballet's Nutcracker. Blew my mind. What a FASCINATING story!

I know... it's a fabulous story. what is great about it is that so many of the girls who really dream and work toward being a dancer (my sister included) have lived through the heartache described in the article... i think once again, she's going to find she's connected with people.

What an incredible story and so brave for sharing... I think her heartbreaking story is going to resonate with millions of girls the world over.

oh my GOSH. i JUST found a copy of this book in myopic books (chicago!) this year, after years of searching for it. when i was 5-6, i knew the EXACT spot this book inhabited at my school's library and would spend ages looking at it. to know the grown-up history of the very young dancer years later—wow. i loved reading about her again, and like you said, i reconnected with her in a very different way. seriously.. this post was the best surprise! thanks.

Thank you so much for the link to the NY Times article. I am a little older than Stephanie but loved the book anyway. She was brave to tell her story and I thought the Times piece was very sensitive to her, and perhaps also to those of us who wanted to be her.
