Thanks all for being here this week. I wasn't quite back in the swing of things after the holidays but I'm getting there. [Do NOT tell my mother the tree didn't come down on twelfth night though she usually keeps hers up until Easter. Shhhhh.....] Thanks for showing all the Roy McKie love and the e-mails and such. To send him off with a blast [though in adorable fashion, he is completely Internet unsavvy and probably won't read any of this until I mail him a copy... try explaining to someone what an @ symbol is over the phone... too cute], I've chosen this Update Friday to spice up one of the very first posts I did way back in 2007.
In celebration of the fact that I live in Texas and it's almost the middle of January and there are mosquitoes and dandelions in my backyard and larkspur and nasturtium are sprouting in my garden... I give you a fully updated post on Roy's book Summer. Enjoy.
And do not forget to enter the Great Monday Give... and seeing as most people read my blog on Mondays and Tuesdays and I posted the give on a Thursday, there won't be nearly as many entries so you have a better chance of scoring the win. Whew! Have a great weekend.

We also hail from Texas, and I know what you mean by the mosquitoes and dandelions. We've even seen a few stray leaf footed stink bugs (summer regulars.) After last winter, downright frigid by our standards, this feels like a backward extension of spring. BTW, I've enjoyed the series on McKies books. Snow is now on my mental to be found list.
ReplyDeleteOh I remember some of these books you've mentioned. Those were good.
ReplyDeleteOpening up your page this morning made me chuckle- Summer??!! - Today is the first day with some sun (rather than grey grey winteriness) we've seen in weeks. As a gardener I'm not normally keen on dandelions, but the thought of yours is warming me this morning!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know of a "how to" arts and crafts book from the 70s that was illustrated by Roy McKie or someone whose illustrations are nearly identical? It is driving me crazy trying to find it! So far I cannot find it listed under any of the websites I have found for Roy McKie.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Melinda
Someone mentioned this book yesterday and Lopshire's pictures look very similar here to McKie's. Is this the book you are remembering? How To Make Flibbers?

That IS the book! Thank you SO much! I will get some rest tonight!
