Great Monday Give: Sam and Emma
The only thing you can do on a morning like this morning... a morning where there is sadness... a morning where political ugliness has reached a crescendo (and hopefully an end) in this great country of ours... is talk about something uplifting. Sitting and waiting on the Caldecott winners and good old Edward Gorey seems like a good place to start to me.
The Great Monday Give today is a copy of the Gorey illustrated children's book, Sam and Emma. All you have to do to be entered to win this treasure is comment on this post before Sunday the 16th at 11:59 PM. A winner will be selected at random and announced the next day.
So without further yuck yuck, I'm sending love to Arizona and moving on with Monday...
Oh yeah... I almost forgot. The winner of In a People House is Frog's Mom. E-mail me at webe(at)soon(dot)come with your info. Congrats!

Agreed, remembering the sweet with the sad.
I'd love to see some more of this book.
A little Mr. Gorey is always a great gift!
The snow here in Alabama makes this a good day for quiet reflection. And for reading.
This looks like a very cute book.
We would love this!
Truly a treasure--thanks for the chance.
Looks cool! Thanks for the chance at it.
Oh, Edward Gorey! What is needed, indeed.
Mm… I always love some Gorey. This looks delightful! Thanks!
As a Canadian I love the fact that the beavers share a meal with Sam and Emma. Great book!
One can never have enough Gorey.

Gorey always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing!
Children's books offer great comfort and insight. Thank you for sharing your joys with the rest of us, even during the sad and ugly times.
I love Edward Gorey and there is nothing cuter (or weirder) than a Gorey cat.
I definitely agree, Gorey is just the trick. It seems like a dream of a book! I love his work, this would be a fantastic addition.
Gorey, Gorey, Gorey!
I think I always enjoy Gorey's illustrations. These look sweeter than usual to me.

I'm excited to introduce Z to E. Gorey and ashamed to admit that we have not one of his books in our library! This would be a great start.
