I stumbled across a copy of this lovely hardcover and dust-jacketed book, a brand-new edition in brand-new condition for only a dollar and couldn't pass it up for the give. The Petershams bring this house so much joy on any given day, I thought it would be fun to spread the love and joy around. So without further yuk, yuk, the Great Monday Give for today is the Caldecott Medal winner from 1946, The Rooster Crows by Maud and Miska Petersham. To enter to win, simple comment on this post before Sunday, March 7 at 11:59 PM. A winner will be selected at random and announced the next morning.
Speaking of spreading the love, I'm never again going to ask readers to write why they want a book because it makes it so much harder than my reliable and random blind scroll and point method of choosing a winner. I even had to ask for help from family and friends in making a decision on last week's give, the OOP and highly-collectible Wuggie Norple Story... It seems books impact people's lives in many different and wonderful ways, but I'm going with my husband's pick... Lydia in Fargo. His reasoning... giving it to her would "impact more people".
From Lydia: "For the past 2 years we have celebrated Daniel Pinkwater's birthday by sharing his Larry books with the students. We encourage everyone to wear pink and also pass out pink bear bookmarks to all the students. It has been a fun celebration by introducing students and staff to an author they may not be familiar with. It would be amazing to have another Daniel Pinkwater book to share with the students."
Anyone who celebrates Daniel Pinkwater's birthday must be awesome in my book! Lydia, send me your mailing info to webe(at)soon(dot)com, and I'll get it out to you ASAP. That's it for now kids. Happy Monday!
Why do I have a feeling that first is not good in this scroll lottery?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ariel. I seem to post near the top- can't be good!:-)
ReplyDeleteHmm, apropos of the above comments, even being in the middle doesn't seem to help any! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm jealous...my thrifting last week did not turn up treasures for the boy but we did have fun.
ReplyDeleteMy girls love poems and rhymes and things so much! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteYay to Lydia! I hope you have fun reading it to your students!

ReplyDeleteVery unreal, I just posted blog about The Rooster Crows and then I was scrolling thru blogs I follow and Wow, you posted about the same book today. I found my copy for 25 cents. It is in not so great condition but I love it !
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,

Count me in for the Rooster Crows. I have been unable to find it in my thrifting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely book. This would be an awesome book to have. As a music teacher, American jingles would be a great addition to my library.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to JacketFlap, but I can already tell I'm going to like it. The Rooster Crows looks like an absolutely lovely book, and I love that someone else values Daniel Pinkwater! I listen to him on NPR, and he has got to be the number one advocate for children's literature.
ReplyDeleteWe would love to have this book! Count us in. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteCount me in. I really need more English songs and rhymes for the girl. This looks great.
