Good morning kids. I've basically spent the weekend in bed with my fever-addled son reading books, watching movies and cajoling him to drink chocolate milkshakes in vain. (That's how I know he's REALLY sick.) We are a hour away from the doctor's appointment, so I wanted to get to the Great Monday Give quick before the remainder of my day is taken up waiting in the pharmacy lounge.
The Unless sign I mentioned a few months ago is on our almost daily walk to the coffee shop, and my son always stops and points it out then goes through all the things he remembers about The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. So, to celebrate this new tradition, I'm giving away an almost brand spanking new copy to one lucky reader. I only paid 49 cents for it, but except for the fact that I bought it at a thrift shop, you would never know it was loved (or not) before. To be entered to win, all you have to do is comment on this post before Sunday at midnight, January 31. A winner will be announced the next morning... in exactly the same fashion as I'm about to do now.
Last week's give, as you'll recall, was a copy of Blueberries for Sal. I used my patented and highly-scientific "Blind Scroll and Point Method" to select the winner. Let's give it up for Aparnature. Many thanks for reading and playing and congrats! Simply e-mail me your mailing info to webe(at)soon(dot)com. I'll ship it out as soon as the fever breaks. That's it for now. Bye-bye!

Oh, I remember this fondly. We'd love to have a copy of this for our reading shelf. Thanks!
ooh, fever-addled son was us during Christmas. I hope he feels better soon. :(
The Lorax is one of my all time favorites. I pray they never adapt it to a CGI film. (The horror!)
lORAX HA HA BUT this line is my fave from another book can you guess which one?
'This is called teamwork. I furnish the brains. You furnish the muscles, the aches and the pains...
( I had trouble getting to Solla Sollew!)
Oh, goodness! I hope he feels better soon!
Regarding the contest....definitely count me in! I loved this book as a child and the TV/Movie special. It had a great message then and it still works for today's world as well.
Happy reading!

Loved Dr. Seuss as a child, but I have never owned this one! The Lorax would be most welcome at my house.
I don't know how on earth it is that I don't yet have this classic in my collection, but I don't. I'd love a chance to win. Thank you!

I love children's books and don't believe I've read this one.
I love Dr. Seuss. It is my great sadness that I only found him as a teen (but, luckily wasn't too cool to love him right away). I plan on not letting the baby wait that long. I would love a copy of the Lorax! And I hope your boy feels better soon.
This looks like a really fun book!
What a great book! Thank you for the opportunity.
Love Dr. Seuss. Thanks

I totally remember reading the Lorax as a kid. I'd love to share it with my kids.
And, darn wish I'd won Blueberries for Sal.
My son is just discovering Dr. Seuss - we would love to win this!
I hope your son is feeling better!
I loved the Lorax growing up. I can't believe I've never picked up a copy for my son!
My youngest is currently fixated on There's a Wocket in my Pocket so this would be a great alternative (if your giveaway is open worldwide)
love this one! thanks!
We love the Lorax and would pass this on to friends. I have heard it compared to Shel Silversteins, A Giving Tree. In my opinion the Lorax has a much better message.
I'd take a book even if it has names scrawled on it - anything does as long as there are pictures and a story! Hope your blind scroll and point method leads to me (grin).
How is your son doing? Hope he is well now. Great of you to post even at this time.
I might as well leave this comment here, if anywhere!
A friend and I frequently discuss books we'd like like to collect for our not-yet-existent children (she is already slowly stocking up). These collections, of course, are a lot of the very-classic children's books that we loved.
Seeing as she (like any sensible person) has always been a fan of Where The Wild Things Are -- especially the wild things themselves -- I was determined to show her Seven Little Monsters.
Unfortunately, most search results came up with more recent renditions, rather than the original book; yet lo! A couple days ago while I finally came across some images from it--attached to your fantastic post about the book.
I've been reading through your blog since then. I can't even express how ridiculously overjoyed I was when I found it. It's reminded me of so many books and illustrators that I loved (my heart stopped when I got to the The Amazing Bone post and I saw the illustrations -- Steig's Abel's Island was a great turning point for me when I was small, and something I hadn't thought about in a very long time), and I've already discovered so many more through it.
I was totally gobsmacked to see that several people are not at all familiar with The Lorax, though; I hope one of them wins the giveaway. I can only imagine how amazing it would be to read it for the first time.
I remember this! I'd love to be entered.

Yay! I've only read a couple of Dr. Seuss Book, but never The Lorax - so curious about it. Let's hope I'll have the delight of reading it soon...
I'm sure I've read this, but I can't remember the story. I'd love to win. Good luck everyone!
Lovely blog you've got here :)
Always have loved this book but still don't have it yet for my kids (we have almost all of his books though) I let my kids watch the short movie of the book a few weeks back for the first time & they were glued to the screen. They asked if I could get the story for them. I'm on the lookout now for a secondhand copy. We have well over a thousand children's books. A good portion were mine from when I was a kid, bought at thrift stores or passed down from my mom whom is a teacher. Kinda silly I haven't gotten this one yet huh? No matter I adore your blog. Thanks for a fun giveaway.
With paernts who are 1st generation immigrants, I didn't get to read Dr. Seuss until I started babysitting beacause my mom always thought the illustrations were so "ugly". I have to set that straight with my son.
I love your blog! I had the happy coincidence of buying the Berenstain Bears Nature book on the same day as your post! And I couldn't agree more about the wonderful work of Williams & Brown! Thank you so much!
I waited until my son was 5 to read The Lorax to him. I wasn't sure he was ready to appreciate the message. He got it. He was in tears by the end and was inconsolable for quite some time thereafter. Everyone should read this book.
In Springfield, Massachusetts, they have a children's museum with sculptures of Dr. Seuss heroes.

It's worth a visit. They have a sculpture of the Lorax too. I always liked that book!!
