Baby Animals
Gyo Fujikawa ~ Grosset and Dunlap, 1978
After battling swine flu and stomach viruses, we are now deep in the trenches of strep. Ugh and ugh. So to get everyone ready for the weekend in style (who is going to see Fantastic Mr. Fox? anyone? anyone?), here are some sweet illustrations from my boy's favorite Fujikawa. Similar to the still-in-print, classic So-Tall-Board-Book Babies, the cute goes a step further. I've spared you the baby monkey here as you might literally go blind from adorable.
Happy Fox Day!

Such precious illustrations! I'm so bummed that I can't see Fantastic Mr. Fox this weekend. It doesn't come out for us until the 25th! These are the days I miss living in a big city. I may have to just start driving until I find the closest town with it playing…
I love Fujikawa. Oh What a Busy Day! is one of my all-time favourites. I had it when I was a kid, then bought it again on eBay as an adult.
So sweet! We'll put it on the list for library day.
I adore Fujikawa! Everything she did was incredibly sweet. Thanks for highlighting one of her sweet tales.
Oh, he's a she? I'm afraid I don't know the name Gyo, but I always pictured a chap!
According to the Wiki: "The masculine name, Gyo (pronounced "ghee-o"), is after a Chinese emperor her father admired."
Not that I'm sexist, but I would question a dude who went around sketching children this cute...
One of our favorites! Thanks for the spotlight. (I just love this site!!)
One of our faves. I was soooo excited when I found a Fujikawa ABC book at the thriftshop - more excited than my kiddo!
